Advocacy, Advancement, Advice
The role of an advisory body differs from that of a governing board.
While advisors have no fiduciary responsibility, an advisory board can uniquely support the mission of an embedded school and its excutive leader. Specific advisory body roles of advocacy, advancement, and advice vary from school to school. A lack of clarity can lead to tension, confusion, and disconnectedness.
Consider taking these three steps:
- Invite the advisory body to discuss how its members see their role.
- Document the purpose, role, and structure.
- Orient new advisors clearly.
Question for consideration:
What ways are you ensuring advisory body role clarity?
