The Associated Church Press annual awards honored In Trust magazine with its best-in-class award. It is the third time in the past five years that the magazine has won the Award of Excellence. The other two years, the magazine earned the Award of Merit as the second-place honoree.

Judges of the ACP contest commended In Trust magazine’s “thoughtful articles” and “cohesive layouts that ensure readers know what to expect.”

Carla Frank, the magazine’s creative director, also received honorable mentions for her design work.

The magazine was also a medal finalist in the Society of Publication Designers’ annual competition. Frank’s designs have won merit awards in the prestigious contest in recent years. Other merit award winners include noted national publications such as The Atlantic, Bon Appetit, GQ, Inc., National Geographic, The New York Times Magazine, and The New Yorker.

Matt Hufman, the In Trust Center’s vice president for communication and magazine publisher, said the awards are humbling.

“While it’s wonderful to receive accolades from outside the field, our focus is providing a valuable resource for our members,” Hufman said.

In Trust magazine was started in the late 1980s. Leaders in the field saw a need for a publication that could help inform boards and executives and started with “an occasional” publication.

In 1992, the magazine became quarterly, and in 2012, Lilly Endowment Inc. provided a transformational grant to create the In Trust Center, which provided programming and broader resources to the field of theological higher education in North America. The magazine is now offered as part of membership to the In Trust Center and through the Center’s website.
