Understanding the pipeline to leadership in theological higher education:
The In Trust Center wanted to know where leaders in theological education come from, so, we looked at a 1992 ATS survey of hiring practices and then we crunched 26 years of data from the “Changing Scenes” section in In Trust magazine. We also looked at changes since the pandemic. The numbers above show what we found, and it appears not much has changed in terms of the background of leaders.
Questions for boards to consider: Where do we look for leaders? How do we train and prepare leaders for the role? Should we consider widening applicant pools?
