Did moses ever feel more like a middle manager than a great leader? Writer and director Mitch Hudson explores that question to comedic effect in the new YouTube series The Promised Land.
The production sneaks in leadership insights as it examines the tedious and occasionally absurd moments of the wilderness trek made by Moses, Aaron, Miriam, Joshua, Zipporah, and the 12 Tribes of Israel after they escape Egypt.
Moses (Wasim No’Mani) has a habit of looking toward the camera with the exasperation of The Office’s Jim Halpert, while Miriam (Shereen Khan) rolls her eyes with the deadpan vigor of Parks and Recreation’s April Ludgate.
Hudson, who served as an assistant director of The Chosen, has delivered a smart, funny, contemporary and heartfelt take on biblical characters, making them seem more like ordinary people in the world today rather than towering figures from Scripture.
