Dr. Rebekah Basinger, the Wise Stewards Initiative project leader, considers one of the traits of theological schools that may work against them. In Episode 100 of the “Good Governance” podcast, Basinger discusses this.
“I worry that we’ve become numb because things have always been difficult for theological education and for theological schools. We’ve always been the most fragile within the larger sphere of higher education. And I hear boards say all the time, if they do talk about the past, ‘Well, we’ve always lived hand-to-mouth.’ And there are these stories in their histories, stories of heroic presidents and donors and occasionally heroic boards that sort of pull the school through a really difficult time.”
