In 1990, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was the keynote speaker at a conference on priestly formation held at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia. His remarks were published in a collection published by Ignatius Press, The Catholic Priest as Moral Teacher and Guide.

The book has long been out of print, but in 2005, when Cardinal Ratzinger became Pope Benedict XVI, Ignatius Press gave In Trust permission to provide the complete text of Pope Benedict's address on the Web for the first time. Also included: The pope's January 21, 1990, homily preached at St. Charles Seminary.
