It’s essential for board members to understand the demographics of our students to truly understand their needs. Many of our students come to Hood after being out of formal education for several years. They often arrive carrying significant life stress and responsibilities. The average theological student is older and typically balances multiple roles, while also managing family commitments.
One of the greatest challenges our students face is financial. This challenge may continue to grow, depending on upcoming changes to the federal financial aid in the U.S. Our team works to help students navigate these complexities, identifying scholarship opportunities, guiding them through financial aid processes, and helping them access the technology they need.
Despite these pressures, our students enter the classroom with joy and determination. It warms my heart to see their commitment and their desire to grow, serve, and make a meaningful impact in the world.
I encourage board members to take time to connect with our students, listen to their stories, and witness the depth of their faith and perseverance. They have powerful stories to tell that remind us all why the mission of seminaries matters.
