Seven new leaders answer the call

President, Henry Luce Foundation

The henry luce foundation has appointed Jonathan Holloway, Ph.D., as its next president and chief executive officer. Holloway assumed the role on Oct. 1, 2025, becoming the Foundation’s seventh president and CEO during its 89th year.

A distinguished historian and higher education leader, Holloway joins the Foundation after five years as the 21st president of Rutgers University. His presidency emphasized civic engagement, civil discourse and democratic participation as core institutional values. At Rutgers, he launched the Scarlet Service program, providing students with paid internships in nonprofit and government organizations, and helped establish the Rutgers Democracy Lab to strengthen democratic engagement and counter misinformation.

Holloway previously served as provost at Northwestern University and held senior faculty and administrative roles at Yale University, including dean of Yale College. His scholarship focuses on post-emancipation U.S. history and African American intellectual life, and he is the author of several widely read books on American history.

Carla Works

President, Wesley Theological Seminary

Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., announced the appointment of Carla Works, Ph.D., as president, effective July 1, 2026. Her appointment marks a milestone as the first woman in the seminary’s history to serve as president of the school, which was founded in 1882.

Works previously served as dean and Woodrow and Mildred Miller Professor of Biblical Theology at Wesley. A distinguished New Testament scholar and educator, she is widely respected for her church-centered scholarship, institutional leadership, and commitment to Scripture.

Her research interests include the Pauline epistles, the New Testament’s use of Israel’s scriptures, biblical ethics, and theological interpretation. She holds a master’s degree from Yale Divinity School and a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary. Her scholarly publications include The Church in the Wilderness: Paul’s Use of Exodus Traditions in 1 Corinthians and The Least of These: Paul and the Marginalized.

Under Works’s leadership, Wesley DC will continue its mission as a national model for theological education.

She will replace President David McAllister-Wilson, D.Min., who is retiring this summer after  24 years in office and more than 40 years at the seminary, his alma mater, where he started as a student worker.

Interim President, Northern Seminary

Ingrid Faro, Ph.D., was appointed interim president of Northern Seminary in January. She assumes this role following the conclusion of President Joy Moore, Ph.D.’s appointment as president since November 2024.

Faro brings deep institutional knowledge and extensive experience as a scholar, teacher, and academic leader. She previously served as dean of Academic Affairs, professor of Old Testament and coordinator of the Master of Arts in Old Testament program at Northern. A trusted presence within the seminary, she has been instrumental in shaping academic programs and mentoring students for faithful leadership in the Church.

An accomplished author and international speaker, Faro’s work engages themes such as the problem of evil, suffering and lament, forgiveness, abuse and power dynamics, and women in Scripture and ministry. She also teaches and lectures globally, bringing a pastoral voice to contemporary theological conversations.

Faro earned a Ph.D. in Old Testament and Semitic Languages and an M.Div. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where she received the President’s Award. Her academic career includes faculty and leadership roles at Northern Seminary, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and the Scandinavian School of Theology in Uppsala, Sweden, where she also served as dean of the theology faculty.

Interim Dean and President, Seminary of the Southwest

The Rt. Rev. Diane M. Jardine Bruce has been appointed interim dean and president of Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. She began her new duties in January 2026. The seminary’s Board of Trustees has convened a committee to search for a permanent dean and president.

Bruce brings extensive experience as a bishop, diocesan leader, and church executive to her new role. Most recently, she served as Bishop Provisional of the Diocese of West Missouri from 2021 to 2025, where she led 47 congregations through a period of stabilization and preparation for the election of a new bishop diocesan. During her tenure, she worked closely with diocesan leaders to strengthen governance structures, implement a zero-based and narrative budgeting process, and rebuild key commissions and committees.

Previously, Bruce served as bishop suffragan in the Diocese of Los Angeles from 2010 to 2021, overseeing more than 70 congregations across five deaneries in one of the church’s most diverse dioceses. In that role, she expanded multicultural ministry, strengthened stewardship practices and supported parish vitality and growth. Her earlier ministry includes service as rector of St. Clement’s by-the-Sea in San Clemente, California, where she guided significant parish growth and expanded Spanish-speaking ministry.

Bruce currently serves on the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church, where she is chair of the Joint Budget Committee and vice chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Finance.

Before entering ordained ministry, Bruce spent 17 years in corporate leadership at Wells Fargo Bank, ultimately serving as vice president of compensation, management, and analysis.

Bruce holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jonathan Kraemer

President, Concordia Lutheran Seminary

Concordia Lutheran Seminary Edmonton has named the Rev. Jonathan Kraemer as its president. A 1998 graduate of the seminary, Kraemer assumed the role in October 2025 and returns with a deep appreciation for its mission and a longstanding connection shaped by his own vocational formation.

Ordained in the Lutheran Church-Canada, Kraemer has served congregations across western Canada, including Peace and Trinity Lutheran Churches in Trail and Fruitvale, British Columbia, and All Saints Lutheran Church in Edmonton, Alberta. His pastoral ministry has been marked by a commitment to preaching, teaching, and congregational leadership.

From 2006 to 2016, Kraemer was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Seminary faculty, where he served as Assistant Professor of Exegetical Theology. During that decade, he played a formative role in the academic and spiritual development of seminarians preparing for ministry, contributing both in the classroom and to the wider life of the seminary community.

Kraemer’s appointment as president reflects both his deep institutional knowledge and his enduring commitment to theological education and church leadership.

President-Rector, St. Mary’s Seminary & University

The Society of St. Sulpice, province of the United States, has announced the appointment of Rev. Shawn D. Gould, P.S.S., as the next President-Rector of St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, Maryland. Gould will assume office on July 1, 2026, following the retirement of Rev. Phillip J. Brown, P.S.S.

Gould brings extensive experience in priestly formation, theological education, and pastoral leadership. A priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago and a member of the Society of St. Sulpice since 2021, he most recently served as director of the Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney Propaedeutic House of Formation and St. Mary’s Historic Site in Baltimore. He has also served on the St. Mary’s faculty as an assistant professor of systematic theology, spiritual director, and member of the formation faculty.

Gould’s academic background includes advanced pontifical theological degrees, a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, and ongoing doctoral studies at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. His scholarship is rooted in the Christological and spiritual theology of Jean-Jacques Olier and the French School.
