News & Insights

Board Cafe is a very short newsletter from CompassPoint Nonprofit Services. In this edition from 2008, they address the proper role of an attorney on the board. Read it here.

The article takes a cautious approach -- be careful before inviting a lawyer onto your board! But my gut tells me that the article is a tad too negative about attorneys.

A good example of a lawyer who serves a theological school board is Steven Lambert, chair of the board at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. If you are a board or staff member of one of In Trust's member schools, you can listen to a downloadable audio file of a dialogue between Steve Lambert and the seminary's president, David McAllister-Wilson. It's not about his work as an attorney, but it does address the all-important relationship between a president and a board chair.

Find out if your school is a member of In Trust here. Go to downloadable audio file here. You'll need to create a username and password, if you haven't already done so.
