News & Insights

In North America, shared governance is central component of higher education. Yet plenty of research shows that shared governance is not clearly understood by many who are tasked with it.

Furthermore, a recent publication from the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) indicates that the nature of shared governance is continuously in flux. This white paper, published in 2017 and titled Shared Governance: Changing with the Times, presents findings from focus group sessions with presidents, board members, and faculty. Participants were given questions ahead of time, and their answers provide insight into how shared governance is perceived and practiced throughout a variety of institutions.
