This year, the In Trust Center is launching the Wise Stewards Initiative, a new opportunity aimed at transforming governance processes at theological schools to promote change rather than stagnation. Participation is limited to 10 schools in each of three years, with selection based on institutional type: freestanding institutions in Year 1; embedded theological schools in Year 2; and Roman Catholic and denominationally-owned theological schools in Year 3.

Participating schools will begin by engaging in a board assessment and education session. They will then send a team of four (president and three board members) to a seminar led by a team of governance consultants who will focus on promoting governance as a change agent and identifying exemplary practices of 21st century boards. Leaders of the initiative will work to develop a learning community within each cohort of schools. After the seminar, schools will receive ongoing coaching and support. Nationally recognized leaders in administration and governance will serve as seminar governance consultants and advisory council members.
