On April 11-12, 2018, the In Trust Center for Theological Schools will be hosting an educational symposium on “The Gift of Black Theological Education.” The symposium will be the first gathering in the new phase of the In Trust Center’s initiative on building capacity for sustainability in historic Black theological schools, which is supported by Lilly Endowment Inc.

Over the past three years, six schools — Hood Theological Seminary, Howard University School of Divinity, Interdenominational Theological Center, Payne Theological Seminary, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University, and Shaw University Divinity School — have worked together in partnership with the In Trust Center on an initiative to strengthen fundraising.

During the new phase of this initiative, we are seeking to foster a flourishing culture of generosity in which everyone understands the benefits of an expanded community of learning beyond the six participating schools. Inspired by Isaiah 54:2, we are committed to “enlarging our tent” by building a broader community of learning and by sharing our work.

Keynote speakers include:

Dr. John Kinney

Professor of Theology, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University

Director, Center for African American Pentecostalism and Leadership Development

Former Dean, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University

Dr. Frank Thomas

Nettie Sweeney and Hugh Th. Miller Professor of Homiletics, Christian Theological Seminary

Director of the Academy of Preaching and Celebration, Christian Theological Seminary
